‘Vishwas, all my friends including me have gotten through the campus placement of an MNC. However, I’m not keen on joining that company because my interest is in another Indian startup,’ wrote a fresher from an engineering college.
‘In that case, you should join the Indian startup. What’s the concern? Is it the salary or stability?’ I asked.
‘No, both companies are almost paying equal & are stable.’ ‘Then?’
‘My friends are pressurizing me to join the MNC. They think it will be fun to be in the same company & have our gang intact. How can I say no to my friends?’ he asked.
Frankly, I had not expected this response. But I had to respect the doubts in his mind. ‘The truth is once we leave college & enter our professional careers, we all go our separate ways.
You can’t set the course of your career based on your friends. In long run, it would ruin you both professionally & personally,’ I told.
Join a company that would help you pursue your interests & aligns with your goals. A company is not a place where you go because of friends or go there to make friends.
Don’t care what others think or feel. Focus on your goals & work diligently. For, only YOU will be responsible for the success or failure of your career. Not them.
