An interesting story that you must read to know how you can impress your interviewer and get hired in one go!
‘What are you good at?’ I asked.
‘Sir, I’m good at cooking!’ she said enthusiastically.
I was blank for a moment. It’s been long I have interviewed interns. Last week, I had randomly decided to interview this candidate for HR internship.
I then smiled & said, ‘That’s brilliant! Can you not call me sir? You can call me Vishwas.’ ‘Okay Sir… I mean okay Vishwas,’ she said, slightly embarrassed.
‘Why do you want to do an internship in HR? Why not marketing, etc?’ ‘Because I’m good with people & problem solving,’ she said. ‘Problem Solving?
For example?’ I asked. ‘Yes, I’m the problem solver in my friend’s circle. People always come to me when they have difficulties or conflicts.’ I couldn’t help but smile at her innocent but honest analysis.
After dealing with senior professionals, I had inherently assumed problem-solving is always about some tech or business issue. She made me realize that I was wrong.
‘How do you solve their problems?’ I asked. ‘Usually, it’s about asking them to not be petty in their thoughts and focus on positivity”, she replied and I was amazed.
Her enthusiasm & raw talent floored me. ‘You are hired!’
Bottomline – Your ‘inherent attitude’ of being positive & enterprising matters. Be a fresh breath of energy. Bring that raw spark to the table.
