Rule No.1 while sending a message to anyone is to get their name right. No other rules matter if you can’t even type the name correctly.
It’s an outright put off! It’s sacrilege!
Here’s what led to this post. I get tons of messages on LinkedIn every day & most of these are messages are from sales folks trying to sell services/product/etc. Of these, I see several sales folks spell my name incorrectly. It’s happening way too much.
They call me Vikas, Vishal or even Vishnu. Come on, guys! How difficult is it to type a name correctly?
How do you expect the person to take your message seriously & send a positive response? Remember, ‘attention-to-detail’ is key to success for a salesperson. Further, you need to even personalize the message to add value to a prospective buyer. These are basics of lead generation.
I thought I was the only guy facing this situation because my name is a bit of tongue-twister. But no! I asked my co-founder at GoodWorkLabs, Sonia Sharma. She faces the same situation. People call her Sonal, Sonali, and even Sonu. This is not cool, guys!
Double check before hitting the send button. This will help you hit your targets.
Attention-to-detail is everything – that should be your sales strategy!
