In this post, Vishwas talks about why picking up new skills must be encouraged and how people should not bog down from doing so.
Shifting gears in your career is a difficult task. But try, you must.
I received this message- ‘I have a question regarding my career path. I’m working in an Indian MNC & wish to change my technology. I’m learning AWS. But my manager is not supporting. I feel trapped here. Also, I don’t wish to cut my earning source by leaving my job. What should I do?’
Well, I always encourage professionals to pick up new skills. That’s the only way to move forward in your career. It’s unfortunate that the manager is not supporting. It could be because AWS is not directly relevant to them or some other reason.
This problem is faced by many. But the only way to deal with this is to pursue on your own & master it. Learn from resources/courses online, take up projects, contribute to open source & interact with fellow domain experts.
After you showcase your mastery over the tech, companies would be willing to give you a chance. Because most hiring managers are looking for people who are smart, proactive & hard-working. By learning new tech, you have proven you have all these qualities.
Remember, if you are good at something, people will hire you in spite of knowing you don’t have real-life project experience.
This is the best path to shifting gears in your career. All the best!
